Frequently asked questions

What is a discussion list?
It's a way of distributing email to a whole list of people. Once you have joined a list, any message someone sends to the list will also be forwarded to you; and if you write back, your email will be distributed to everyone else on the list.

How much email will I receive?
At the moment the lists are fairly quiet, you won't get more than one message a day on average.

Can I leave if I change my mind?
You can leave a list at any time. If you are going away for a period of time for work or holiday, you might like to leave the list, then join again when you return.

I tried to leave, but I'm still getting messages
Make sure that you 'unsubscribe' using the same email address that you subscribed with.

Can I say anything I like?
No, if you write a message to a list that we consider illegal or offensive, the list moderator may either send you a warning or ban you from the list. As a rule of thumb, please don't send anything to a discussion list that you wouldn't be prepared to see printed in the Bulletin.

How do I know who else is on each list?
Member information is available on the eGroups website for each list. From a web browser, go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/<name of list>
for example:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/redrope-national
You will have to log in with your email address and password. Haven't got a password? Follow the instructions on the page for registering. Only members of a list can see who the other members are.

There was an interesting message a few weeks ago, but I've lost it
You can look at an archive of messages by going to the eGroups website for the list (see above).

Can I start my own list?
Yes! If you have enough people with email in a region or special interest group, why not start a list? All you need to do is go to the Yahoo Groups homepage and fill out their 'start a group' form.
